'The purpose of the Confederation of Community
Groups is to support and encourage the development of
voluntary action by communities and individuals and
in so doing contribute to the creation of a powerful
and inclusive community that will influence positive
change'
The
Confederation of Community Groups is an umbrella organisation
for voluntary and community groups in the Newry and
Mourne area. It offers advice, practical support, services
and training through a number of projects and services.
Its work is funded by the District Council, Government
Departments as well as a variety of independent bodies.
The Confederation's current annual turnover is £1m.
It employs 28 people and is managed by a voluntary Management
Committee drawn from its
Newry & Mourne Voluntary & Community Groups.
This Department serves
a dual role in that it provides support to all the projects
carried out on behalf of the Confederation of Community
Groups and also ensures that best use is made of the
premises (Ballybot House & Annexe). Ballybot House

Finance
The regular monitoring and updating of Financial Controls
helps to ensure that the Confederation of Community
Group's financial systems are at the forefront of recognised
good practice in the Voluntary and Community sector.
The Finance and Services department supports the Confederation
of Community Groups projects by helping to identify
and secure funding for future programmes and by effectively
controlling expenditure ensures that all agreed budgetary
controls are adhered to.
Human Resources
The Finance and Services department plays a key role
in the Advertising, Recruitment and Development of all
personnel in the Confederation. All policies relating
to recruitment and work place activities are regularly
monitored and updated in line with changes in legislation
and member groups requesting advice and information
on related matters are kept advised.
The Confederation in acknowledging that its Human Resources
(staff) are its most important asset
and achieved Investors in People Award
in June 2007.
