Volunteering - Millennium volunteers


Millennium Volunteers is a UK wide initiative offering young people aged 16 -24 oppurtunities to help themselves and their communities, promoting the concept of young people as volunteers.
It aims to:
  • Attract young people currently involved in volunteering and those who have never previously volunteered.
  • Provide support and structure for those who are active within their community in an informal way.
  • Offer recognition and the option of accreditation for voluntary work undertaken.
  • Create new opptunities for voluntary activity.
Why do it?

The key principles which make Millennium Volunteers distinctive are:

  • Ownership by young people including the promotion of youth-led projects.

Millennium Volunteers Award

How do you get a Millennium Volunteers Award of Excellence?

Each Volunteer agrees a volunteer placement and completes a volunteer plan explaining what they hope to do within their placement with a target of 200 hours commitment to volunteering.

On completion of 200 hours the volunteer will recieve a Millennium Volunteers Award which is in the form of a nationally recognised certificate.

For those who are unable to complete 200 hours, recognition will take the form of a certificate after 100 hours and a personal profile.

Youth-led Projects

Millennium Volunteers allows for the development of youth-led projects and currently supports VOYAGE - Voluntary Youth Action Group - through Volunteer Now.

VOYAGE was established by a group of young people who had completed the first Prince's Trust - Volunteers Programme in Newry & Mourne and is managed by its members.

Their aim is to raise the profile of young people through volunteering and to provide an outlet for new ideas to develop the individual talent and potential of each group member.

Volunteer Now

Facilities the Millennium Volunteers Initiative through its support of development of good practice for involving young people as volunteers. It provides support and a framework for VOYAGE.
